The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended its directions on Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Dehradun for three more months. In a press release dated 5 November 2026, RBI said the directions will now remain in force from close of business on 10 November 2026 to close of business on 10 February 2027, subject to review.

What Happened

RBI first issued the directions to the bank under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, through a directive dated 9 February 2026. Section 35A allows RBI to give binding directions to a bank in the public interest, and Section 56 applies the law to co-operative banks. The original directions ran for six months, from close of business on 10 February 2026 up to close of business on 10 August 2026.

RBI last extended them through a directive dated 5 August 2026. In its latest release, RBI said it is satisfied that, in the public interest, the directions need to run beyond close of business on 10 November 2026. It has therefore extended them for a further three months, to 10 February 2027.

RBI said the extension should not by itself be read to mean that it is satisfied with the bank's financial position. All other terms and conditions of the original directive remain unchanged, the release said.

What It Means

For depositors, borrowers and other customers of Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Dehradun, the conditions RBI placed on the bank in February 2026 continue unchanged for at least three more months. The release does not set out those conditions, so customers who want to know how they are affected should ask the bank or refer to the original directive.

RBI said the directions are subject to review, so they may be changed before 10 February 2027. The release does not say what will happen after that date.
