The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended its directions on Sonpeth Nagari Sahakari Bank Maryadit, Sonpeth, Dist. Parbhani, by three more months. In a press release dated 28 October 2026, RBI said the directions will now remain in force up to the close of business on 30 January 2027, subject to review.
What Happened
RBI first issued the directions to the co-operative bank on 29 July 2025 under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. Section 35A allows RBI to give binding directions to a bank in the public interest. The original directive ran for six months, up to the close of business on 30 January 2026. It was later extended, most recently by a directive dated 22 July 2026, up to the close of business on 30 October 2026.
RBI said it is satisfied that, in the public interest, the directive needs to continue beyond 30 October 2026. It has therefore extended it for a further three months, from the close of business on 30 October 2026 to the close of business on 30 January 2027.
RBI added that the extension or any modification should not by itself be taken to mean that it is satisfied with the financial position of the bank. All other terms and conditions of the original directive remain unchanged, the release said.
What It Means
For depositors and borrowers of Sonpeth Nagari Sahakari Bank, the conditions that have applied to the bank since July 2025 continue for at least three more months. The release does not list those conditions, so customers should check the terms of the directive displayed at the bank's branches or ask the bank directly about what they can and cannot do with their accounts.
The directions are subject to review, which means RBI can change them before 30 January 2027. Customers who face a problem with the bank's service can file a complaint with RBI at https://cms.rbi.org.in.
