How to read each row

Each row carries a label saying what kind of statement it is. The difference matters: a regulator’s finding is a conclusion reached after hearing the company; an allegation is not.

Regulator's finding
RBI recorded that the charges were sustained after hearing the entity. RBI states that such action is based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and does not pronounce on any transaction with customers.
Court order
What the court or commission ordered or held, as reported in the linked source.
Allegation
An action by an investigating agency or police. It records what the agency alleges and has not been proven in court.
Government action
An administrative or policy step by a government body or platform.

What the tracker includes

  • RBI penalties, registration cancellations and business restrictions where the findings concern how a lender treats borrowers: digital lending rules, the Fair Practices Code, recovery conduct, interest and fees beyond what was disclosed, Key Fact Statements, and lending decisions handed to outside parties.
  • Enforcement Directorate, CBI and police action against loan-app operations, including extortion of borrowers and the companies and accounts behind them.
  • Government orders blocking loan apps, and court or consumer-commission orders on lending harm.

It leaves out penalties only for paperwork, KYC or capital lapses, and frauds that are not about lending, such as investment-app or “digital arrest” scams. Individuals are never named: arrests are given as a number, and companies and apps appear exactly as the source document names them.

RBI rows are dated by RBI’s press release. Where the action date is not published, a row is dated by the first report of it. Police operations are often reported only locally, so that part of the list is not complete: if you know of an action we have missed, send the source and we will add it once it is checked.
