The GST Network (GSTN), which runs the GST portal, has revised Form GST REG-01, the application for new GST registration. In an advisory dated 1 November 2026, it said the revised form asks for more information and standardises the documents applicants must give about their business constitution, places of business and other particulars, with details in Notification No. 05/2026-Central Tax and Circular No. 257/03/2026-GST, both dated 26 October 2026.
What Happened
One Person Company (OPC) is now a separate category of business constitution, and applicants must upload supporting proof such as a certificate of incorporation, partnership deed or registration certificate, as applicable. Applicants for registration as an SEZ unit or developer must enter an SEZ Entity ID. E-commerce operators liable to pay tax under Section 9(5) of the CGST Act get a separate section asking about their physical presence in the state and, where applicable, their authorised representative.
The form now asks specifically for existing GSTINs and professional tax registration and enrolment numbers. Business premises are sorted into standard categories: owned, in the name of a deceased ancestor, rented or leased, consent-based, co-working spaces and SEZ premises, each with its own required documents. The list of business activities now includes, among others, co-working space, health and fitness clubs, renting or leasing of immovable property and renting of motor vehicles, vessels or aircraft.
Applicants must give bank account details, up to 10 accounts, when applying where available; otherwise within 30 days of the registration certificate being issued in Form GST REG-06. Limited liability partnerships must give the Director Identification Number of designated partners. The portal will validate CIN, FCRN, LLPIN and FLLPIN online, and the application reference number (ARN) will be generated only after successful validation.
What It Means
Anyone applying for a new GST registration, from a sole trader to a company, will now meet a longer form with more specific document requirements. GSTN has advised applicants to review the revised form and keep the information and documents ready before starting, to ensure complete filing and avoid delays in processing. Businesses that register without a bank account must add one within the 30-day deadline.
