K. Venkateswarlu, Inspector, Legal Metrology, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District, was caught by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on 28 October 2026, along with Kasaram Ravinder, a private person who works as a petrol pump technician, according to an ACB press note of the same date. The ACB alleges that a bribe of Rs 20,000 was demanded and accepted from the owner of a petrol bunk.

What Happened

According to the ACB, officials of its Nalgonda Range caught the inspector when he demanded and accepted the bribe through the private person, who is the second accused. The ACB said the money was a reward for having already issued a "Verification Certificate" and for handing over the "Daily Sales Register" of the complainant's petrol bunk. Legal metrology inspectors check and certify that weighing and measuring equipment, such as fuel dispensers, is accurate.

The ACB has alleged that, on the inspector's instructions, the private person accepted the Rs 20,000 from the complainant at L.B. Nagar, Hyderabad, and that Rs 15,000 of it was meant for the inspector and Rs 5,000 for the private person himself. The ACB said the money was recovered from the private person. It has alleged that the inspector performed his duty improperly and dishonestly to obtain an undue advantage.

According to the press note, both accused are being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, Nampally, for judicial remand. The case is under investigation.

These are allegations, not findings of guilt; the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court, and due process continues.

What It Means

Fuel station owners and other traders need legal metrology certificates to run their business, and the ACB's case shows that a bribe demand for such a certificate, even one routed through a middleman, can be reported. The ACB asks the public to report any bribe demand by a public servant on its toll-free number 1064, on WhatsApp at 9440446106, or on Facebook and X as Telangana ACB. It says a complainant's name and details are kept secret.
