Kottoor Vijay, Sub-Inspector of Police, Banjara Hills Police Station, Hyderabad City, has been booked by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a case of criminal misconduct, according to an ACB press note dated 28 October 2026. The ACB alleges that he first demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a complainant, and that the amount was later reduced and finally settled at Rs 1 lakh.

What Happened

According to the ACB, the bribe was demanded for official favours. The ACB said these were not arresting the complainant in connection with two court-referred cases, Crime Nos. 524/2024 and 525/2024 of Banjara Hills Police Station; issuing notices under Section 41-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure and accepting the complainant's replies to them; and making sure no fresh cases were registered against the complainant in the same matter. A Section 41-A notice asks a person to appear before the police instead of being arrested.

The ACB has alleged that the officer acted improperly and dishonestly in the discharge of his official duties to obtain an undue advantage for himself. According to the press note, he is being produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, Nampally, for judicial remand. The ACB said the case is under investigation and that the complainant's details are being withheld for security reasons.

These are allegations, not findings of guilt; the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court, and due process continues.

What It Means

The case shows that a bribe demand linked to an arrest or a police notice can be reported, even by a person who is facing a case. In its press note, the ACB asked the public to report any bribe demand by a public servant on its toll-free number 1064. It can also be reached on WhatsApp at 9440446106, and on Facebook and X as Telangana ACB. The ACB says the name and details of a complainant are kept secret.
