NLC India Limited reported consolidated net profit attributable to its owners of Rs 1,380.67 crore for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 (Q2 FY27), more than double the Rs 665.12 crore of a year earlier. Revenue from operations rose 13.3% to Rs 4,732.35 crore, the company said in its filing with the National Stock Exchange.

What Happened

The company's filing with the National Stock Exchange carries unaudited consolidated results for the quarter and half-year ended 30 September 2026, approved by its board on 4 November 2026.

Revenue from operations was Rs 4,732.35 crore. That compares with Rs 4,178.41 crore in the same quarter a year earlier, a rise of 13.3%, and Rs 4,716.75 crore in the quarter ended 30 June 2026, a rise of 0.3%.

Profit attributable to the owners of the company was Rs 1,380.67 crore, up 107.6% from Rs 665.12 crore a year earlier and up 185.1% from Rs 484.27 crore in the June 2026 quarter. Profit for the period, before the split between owners and non-controlling interests, was Rs 1,328.01 crore; non-controlling interests accounted for a loss of Rs 52.66 crore.

The filing shows profit before tax of Rs 464.65 crore, against Rs 921.34 crore a year earlier. The quarter's total tax line was a credit of Rs 863.31 crore, because deferred tax was a credit of Rs 987.74 crore. In its notes, the company says it remeasured its deferred tax assets and liabilities during the half-year by applying the new tax regime in place of the old one, and puts the impact at Rs 714.17 crore.

For the half-year ended 30 September 2026, revenue from operations was Rs 9,449.10 crore, against Rs 8,004.02 crore a year earlier. Profit attributable to owners for the half-year was Rs 1,864.94 crore, against Rs 1,462.71 crore.

Earnings per share after adjusting for net regulatory deferral balances were Rs 9.96 for the quarter, against Rs 4.80 a year earlier. The notes also say the company signed a second addendum on 3 September 2026 to its agreement to transfer renewable energy assets to NLC India Renewables Limited, covering 708.96 MW of assets for Rs 853.97 crore.

What It Means

These are the company's own unaudited figures. The sharp rise in attributable profit comes with a much lower profit before tax than a year earlier, and the filing's own tax line and note show that the tax credit is a large part of the difference. Readers comparing the two quarters should look at both profit before tax and profit after tax.

The filing does not say whether the tax credit will recur. Shareholders and those following the company can read the full statement, including the notes on the asset transfer, in the company's filing on the National Stock Exchange website.
